Royer-Greaves School for Blind
Learning, Achieving and Having Fun in a Supportive EnvironmentEvery Royer-Greaves School for Blind student has his or her own abilities, needs, challenges and interests. Our teachers and staff meet them where they are, supporting them to achieve all that they can.
We serve students ages 5 to 21, keeping our student to teacher ratio small to provide individualized instruction and therapeutic supports. We know our students well, something especially important for those who do not always use language to communicate.
Much learning and fun happens outside the classroom in our music room and gymnasium and on our tree-shaded campus, which features a playground full of adaptive equipment that lets children with many different abilities play.
Our students are part of the community. We take frequent educational and fun trips to the post office, library, and local shops and restaurants as part of our community-based instructional program, giving students opportunities to practice skills they learn in the classroom, including communication, orientation and mobility, and self-help skills.
The community is also part of our school, drawn to campus by our hand bell concerts and holiday performances.
